JRock247 Review: exist†trace - VIRGIN

[excerpt]

“Wonderland” and “Honey” are the stand-out tracks from the new material, and I really wish one of these had been the lead PV for VIRGIN. Both tracks feature some outstanding guitar work, including miko’s bottleneck guitar solo on “Wonderland” and some cool parts in “Keiyaku” where miko uses an E-bow and layers a fast-forward/rewind effect. Omi rips loose with powerful solos in “Honey” and “Signal”.

“Daybreak” and “True” still shine in composition and performance, and they’re the best spots to pay attention to Naoto and Mally’s irreplaceable back line contributions. You can gather a few glimpses of their synchronicity in “Honey”, but the Mally/Naoto combo is one of the best in today’s J-Rock scene, and VIRGIN’s new material doesn’t highlight them nearly as much as they deserve. [Excerpt]“Honey” has a very American, hard rock feel. Jyou is carrying the melody, throws in an MC that will be great during a live show, and there’s a very definitive end as the guitar rides the melody out in time with the snap-close of a drum snare.

New interview with Nagoya New-Wave band Budo Grape!

[excerpt]
JPW: True Love is a really fun song. How did you find the right musical style to fit the lyrics? Do you try crazy things in rehearsal to get the right balance?

Quminco: I believe we had the music first and then wrote the lyrics for it?

Nagai: At first the members didn’t really care for it, but it became one of the most popular songs. Listen to the chorus part where it says “I love you,” where the rhythm changes — I think that’s where it really comes alive.

Quminco: When I sing it, I imagine myself as a girl so obsessed with something — she’s almost like a stalker!

Nagai: (smiles and makes quote marks) “Almost…”

DAZZLE VISION - SHOCKING LOUD VOICE

Sparkplugged review:
[excerpt]

“SECOND” (セカンド) starts off the album with a hard but melodic kick… vocalist Maiko’s screams ignite the action. She incorporates this signature technique (aka “Death Voice”) throughout much of the album. Her ability to effortlessly alternate between screaming and beautiful flourishes of vocal melody is impressive.
